Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 November 2024, during the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance delegation met with Helena McLeod, Deputy Director-General and Head of Planning and Implementation for Green Growth at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
The meeting focused on the current state of joint projects and areas for further cooperation, including the project "Facilitating Uzbekistan’s Implementation of the Paris Agreement and Joint Actions with the Republic of Korea under Article 6."
This project aims to support Uzbekistan’s government in implementing economic reforms and fostering sustainable development. Key activities include mobilizing green investments, promoting sustainable agricultural and forestry initiatives, conducting strategic environmental assessments, advancing green financing, and developing carbon markets.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties signed a Framework Agreement "On Supporting the Transition to a Green Economy," under which Uzbekistan will receive a US$6.5 million grant.
