Uzbekistan registers 11 CDM projects at UNFCCC
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) registered the eleventh Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project of Uzbekistan “Reducing gas leaks in low pressure and medium pressure gas distribution networks in Ferghana Valley”.

The project will help to reduce gas leakage in gas distribution networks in Ferghana Valley, which unites three regions – Andijan, Ferghana and Namangan. The project will allow to cut 1.211 million tonnes of Certified Emission Reductions (CER) a year, Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan, which is National CDM Body, said.

Currently, the UNFCCC registered eleven CDM projects of Uzbekistan with total planned emission reductions of about 4,402 million tonnes of CO2-equivallent a year.

It is worth to mention that Uzbekistan leads in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on number of projects (11 from 24 in the region) and planned volume of emission reductions (83%).
