Uzbekistan receives remittances for US$3.8 billion in nine months

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan received money transfers in the amount of US$3.8 billion in nine months of 2018, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said.

“Positive balance of secondary income for 9 months of this year reached US$3.0 billion due to transfers to individuals from abroad, ”the regulator said.

The total amount of remittances to individuals - residents from abroad in 9 months of this year reached US$3.8 billion, of which, taking into account the amount of imported cash foreign currency by residents (about US$1 billion), US$3.4 billion or 64% attributed to personal transfers, according to the Central Bank.

Following the results of 9 months 2018, Uzbekistan is net recipient of remittances from Russia (Uzbekistan received US$2.96 billion), Kazakhstan (US$247.1 million), USA (US$138.1 million), Turkey (US$154.9 million), Korea (US$77.1 million ), Israel (US$39.4 million), Sweden, the United Arab Emirates and several other countries, as well as a net payer of remittances to China, Ukraine, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Poland and other countries.

Transfers from Uzbekistan in 9 months of 2018 made up US$639 million. Most of the funds transferred to China, Turkey and Russia, could be transferred to pay for “shuttle” imports. In this regard, the paid personal transfers are reflected on the basis of expert evaluation.
