Uzbekistan receives color raw silk for the first time
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan received the first color raw silk – pink, yellow and green, local news agency UzA reported.

The agency said that Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan produced over 500 kg of colored raw silk.

The report underlined that this novelty, which opens new perspectives in silkworm breeding, is the result of scientific research of Tashkent State Agriculture University. The scientists conducted three year research and it was result of selection between local and Japanese silkworms.

New silkworms were tested in Gallyaaral and Farish districts of Jizzakh region. Silkworms survived in both regions, which means that new breed can be used in Uzbekistan.

Gallyaaral silkworm breeders received 73-75 kg of raw silk from each box of silkworms. Farish region silkworm breeders also received high crop.

New breed is also has better characteristics compared local breeds. The weight of one cocoon is 1.6-1.8 grams compared to 1-1.2 grams of local breeds. The length of silk thread is 820 meters (local breeds – 500-600 meters).
