Uzbekistan ready to continue assisting Afghan women in vocational training

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  Uzbekistan is prepared to continue providing assistance to Afghan women in acquiring vocational skills to prevent a humanitarian crisis, said Saida Mirziyoyeva, Assistant to the President of Uzbekistan, on her Telegram channel.

Mirziyoyeva mentioned that she participated in a roundtable in Qatar dedicated to the International Day to Protect Education from Attack. She emphasized the importance of quality education for women and girls, including those outside Uzbekistan.

According to her, under the initiative of the President, a vocational education center was opened in Termez in 2018, where around 700 Afghan citizens received training, including 200 women and girls. She added that Afghanistan is facing a serious shortage of qualified medical personnel in maternal and child healthcare.

Mirziyoyeva stated that Uzbekistan is ready to continue helping Afghan women learn essential professions, and the Qatari government and the Education Above All Foundation have expressed their willingness to support these efforts. She acknowledged the challenges but assured that every effort would be made to address the issue.

In her view, the best way to protect women is to ensure their free access to education.
