Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- India emerged Group B winners of the AFC U-16 Championship 2020 Qualifiers after playing to a 1-1 draw with hosts Uzbekistan at the Jar Stadium on Sunday.

Both teams finished on seven points with India taking top spot due to a better goal difference.

Turkmenistan finished third after defeating Bahrain 2-1 in the other Group B tie at the Transportation Institute Stadium.

India went into the match knowing they only needed a draw to seal top spot and it was no surprise to see them using a defensive approach.

The onus was on Uzbekistan to take the game to India but the South Asians defended well and the first half ended goalless.

India continued to sit back with the occassional counter attack and their approach paid off in the 68th minute as Sridarth Nongmeikapam gave them a priceless lead.

Going behind meant Uzbekistan needed to score twice to seal the automatic spot from the group but the Central Asians were only able to find the back of the net once, with midfielder Rian Islamov drawing them level in the 81st minute.

Earlier, Uzbekistan defeated Bahrain (3-1) and Turkmenistan (3-2).
