Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law ratifying the treaty to establish the International Organization for the Russian Language under the aegis of the CIS.
In October, the document was approved by the Legislative Chamber and later endorsed by the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Parliament.
The treaty was signed at the CIS leaders’ summit in Bishkek on 13 October 2023.
The new organization will work to strengthen comprehensive cooperation among CIS countries to support and promote the Russian language as a means of interstate communication.
The main focus will be on fostering friendly and neighborly relations, national unity, and mutual trust.
Among the organization’s priorities are ensuring high-quality education in Russian, supporting teacher and scholar training in the fields of “Russian Language and Literature” and “Russian as a Foreign Language,” as well as developing a reserve of specialists.
