Uzbekistan ratifies outer space treaty

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 October, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law ratifying the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies.

The Outer Space Treaty is a fundamental document of international space law. It was adopted by a UN General Assembly resolution on 19 December 1966, and was signed on 27 January 1967, in London, Moscow, and Washington. As of 2024, 114 states have joined the treaty.

In July of this year, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan passed a law on joining the treaty, and in August, it was approved by the Senate.

The ratification of this document is expected to enable Uzbekistan to more actively participate in the exploration and use of outer space, provide access to celestial bodies, and create opportunities for the country to engage in international space projects, as well as exchange resources and knowledge.
