Legislation Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 21 October 2010 and Senate passed the document on 4 December.
The law was developed in connection with adaptation of the International convention against doping in sport by UNESCO General Conference.
Accession to the Convention does not entail any financial obligations. In line with convention Uzbekistan will have to adopt measures in national and international level based on World Anti-Doping Code. Besides, the Convention also envisages international cooperation with member-states and anti-doping organizations, including World Anti-Doping Agency.
The accessing member states should also provide report on carried out measures to the Conference each two years.
International convention against doping in sport was adopted at the 33rd session of the General conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The document is directed at preventing use of doping in sports and combating doping.
About 135 countries joined the convention. Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Armenia inked the document among the CIS states.
