Uzbekistan Railways sends locomotives to China for reconstruction
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan Railways has sent two locomotives to China for reconstruction, according to the subsidiary of the railway operator, "Temiryulkargo."
The electric locomotives of the O'zbekiston series arrived in the Chinese city of Khorgos on 13 March, where they were removed from their bogies and transferred to truck platforms. According to the state-owned company, the journey from Tashkent to the destination took ten days.
The reconstruction of the locomotives is part of Uzbekistan's railway transport modernization program. In August 2024, Uzbekistan Railways and the Zhuzhou Locomotive factory, which is part of the Chinese corporation CRRC, signed an agreement to modernize 12 electric locomotives of the O'zbekiston and O'Z-Y series.
Furthermore, by 2034, the supply of 38 freight and passenger electric locomotives, diesel locomotives, and shunting locomotives is planned, with the possibility of installment payments.
