Uzbekistan produces over 5,000 tonnes of fish in Jan-Sep 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 5,000 tonnes of fish were produced in nine months of 2010 in Uzbekistan. Fish breeding entities are also increasing export volume.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan, 968 enterprises and farms are engaged in fishing and fish farming in lakes and reservoirs, which occupy 600 thousand hectares.

All regions of Uzbekistan established fish farming in artificial lakes. However, the Navoi region holds the leading position in this field, UzA reported.

“Thanks to the attention given to meet the needs of the population of fish products and prevent artificial increase in prices in the markets and further development of the industry, 162 fish farms were established this year,” said the head of the department of Fishery of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zoir Kimsanov.

The banks allocated leases and loans to more than 1.343 billion on preferential terms for fish farms. Particularly, Nukus-balik of Karakalpakstan received 31 million soums, Antika farm 10 million soums, and Oqtepa tabiat bogi of Surkhandarya region 52 million soums.

About 10 species such as carp, catfish, carp, trout, etc. are grown in these farms. The scientists have developed advanced technology of cultivation of productive fish species based on local feed. Currently, this method is effectively used on farms of Khorezm, Bukhara and Syrdarya regions.
