Uzbekistan produces 3,000 tonnes of honey in 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan produced over 3,000 tonnes of honey products in 2011. It was announced at the roundtable titled “Development of beekeeping in Uzbekistan”.

The event was organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan on 11 January 2012.

Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management, Ministry of Healthcare, Ministry of Interior Affairs, State Nature Protection Committee, scholars, farmers and other participated at the event.

At the event, it was noted that currently there are 7,000 business entities, which engaged in beekeeping in Uzbekistan, in 2011 against 4,000 in 2008. At the same time, some 225 beekeepers work in Tashkent, 2,500 in Ferghana Valley and 400-500 in other regions.

During the roundtable, it was noted that the reforms in agriculture sector in Uzbekistan helped to ensure stable supply of honey. The development of beekeeping helped to growth of production.

However, there are problems of developing beekeeping in Uzbekistan. To develop sector, it is necessary solve problems related to decrease of bee families’ number, provide support of local authorities in creating processing complex, etc.

Participants shared their opinion and proposals on development of industry, effective use of existing natural and technologic resources, increasing export potential and others.
