The ministry said that Uzbekistan planned to allocate 241,100 hectare of lands for vegetables, including 84,100 hectares to potatoes and 57,800 hectares to melons and gourds.
As of 1 April 2012, according to preliminary data, vegetables were planned to 110,500 hectares of land, of which 3,600 hectares to melons and gourds, 45,300 hectares to potatoes. The ministry added that planting of vegetables is underway currently. It added that 4,900 hectares of fructiferous gardens, of which 2,400 hectares are grape gardens and 554 hectares are gardens based on intensive technology.
Reconstruction works were conducted at 7,600 hectares of fructiferous gardens an 4,900 hectares of grape gardens. Some 4.2 million tree saplings and 5.9 million grape saplings were planted. In the first quarter of 2012, some 33,400 tonnes of vegetables were produced.
Currently, there are 267 agriculture firms in Uzbekistan, who signed contracts to purchase 1.624 million tonnes of vegetables, fruits, grapes, potatoes and melons and gourds. They provided 40.2 billion soums advanced payments to agriculture goods producers.
