Uzbekistan plans to increase the capacity of renewable energy sources to more than 20 gigawatts by 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, within the framework of the Tashkent Investment Forum, announced the country’s work on 28 projects in the field of introducing “green” energy.

According to him, by 2030 the country plans to increase renewable energy capacity to more than 20 gigawatts, which will amount to approximately 40% of the total energy balance.

He recalled that in 2023, wind and solar power plants with a total capacity of 1.4 gigawatts were launched, carried out with the participation of international companies Masdar, Gezhouba and China Energy.

Work has also begun on a project for the production of “green” hydrogen in cooperation with ACWA Power, the head of Uzbekistan added.

These projects are financed through foreign direct investment and implemented on the basis of public-private partnerships.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also noted that projects for the joint construction of hydroelectric power stations in neighboring Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be presented at the forum, and invited international companies to take part in these initiatives.
