Uzbekistan plans to increase freight transport to the EU via Bulgaria

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to expand its freight transport to European Union (EU) countries through Bulgaria via the Middle Corridor.

On 3-4 September 2024, a meeting of the joint Uzbek-Bulgarian Commission on International Road Transport was held at the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.

The meeting addressed issues related to expanding cooperation in international road freight transport and creating favorable conditions for national carriers.

Special attention was given to increasing the volume of freight transport to EU countries through Bulgaria, utilizing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.

As a result of the meeting, additional permits for 2024 were exchanged, and an agreement was reached on the exchange of permits for 2025, which will be 15 times greater than the current volume.

It is worth noting that, starting from 1 April 2024, an agreement with Romania was reached to conduct bilateral and transit freight transport to EU countries without the need for permits. This agreement aims to diversify existing routes and develop alternative transport corridors.
