Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Over the past decade, Uzbekistan’s higher education system has demonstrated impressive growth, with the number of students enrolled in universities across the country increasing more than five times.

According to data published by the National Statistics Committee, at the start of the 2024/2025 academic year, there are 1,432,800 students studying at higher education institutions in the republic.

For comparison, during the 2015/2016 academic year, this figure was only 264,300. Thus, over ten years, the increase amounted to 1,168,500 students, representing a 5.4-fold growth.

Year after year, the numbers steadily rose: at the beginning of the 2016/2017 academic year, universities enrolled 268,300 students; in 2017/2018, 297,700; and in 2018/2019, 360,200. The trend accelerated in subsequent years, with student numbers reaching 441,000 in 2019/2020, 571,500 in 2020/2021, 808,400 in 2021/2022, and exceeding one million—1,042,100—in 2022/2023. By the start of the 2023/2024 academic year, this figure rose to 1,314,500, and finally, in the 2024/2025 academic year, it reached a record high of 1,432,800 students.
