Uzbekistan 26/08/2009 Uzbekistan not to take part in CSTO exercise

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of Uzbekistan’s armed services will not take part in the joint comprehensive exercise of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which will start on 26 August and will be held in three phases in the territories of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Uzbek armed services will not take part not only in the second and third phases of the manoeuvres with the participation of military subdivisions but in the first phase either when military-political aspects of coalition interaction will be worked on.

Uzbekistan’s stance reflects its position on membership in the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces (CRRF) of the CSTO.

The CSTO’s exercise will last until the middle of October.

Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is military block of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
