Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Uzbekistan plans to introduce state registration for scooters and mopeds from 1 July 2024.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan has published a draft government resolution that proposes the introduction of state registration for mopeds and scooters from 1 July 2024.

The document proposes to issue special license plates: XI1 - for mopeds and XIE1 - for scooters.

The resolution also proposes to ban the use of unregistered mopeds and scooters on public roads from 1 January 2025.

It is expected that the cost of the room will be 1.5 basic estimated values (510,00 soums now).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is concerned about the growing popularity of electric motorcycles, scooters and scooters.

According to the department, since 2021 there has been a sharp increase in imports of electric motorcycles, scooters and scooters. In 2021-2022, more than 50 thousand units were imported (2,442 electric motorcycles and 48,359 scooters), and in 2023 this figure increased 2.5 times, reaching 127 thousand.

The main problem is that the current rules do not require registration of scooters and mopeds if their engine power does not exceed 4 kW and their speed does not exceed 50 km/h.

As a result, they are used by people without knowledge of traffic rules, including minors. This leads to erratic and unsafe driving on the roads.

To solve this problem, the Ministry of Internal Affairs proposes to introduce state registration of scooters and mopeds with the issuance of special license plates.

The initiative is expected to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents involving scooter and moped drivers.

Discussion of the project will last until 4 May.
