Uzbekistan marks 17th anniversary of Universal Postal Union membership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan observes the 17th anniversary of accession to the Universal Postal Union on 24 February 2011.

The Universal Postal Union, which unites 191 countries, is the largest postal service in the world. Uzbekistan has been full-fledged member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) since 1994 and cooperates with other postal administrations.

Uzbekistan Pochtasi OJSC carries out exchange of international correspondence with 92 states of the world. Largest volume of correspondence is exchanged with Russia, the United States, Germany, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Korea.

Uzbekistan Pochtasi developed three projects in 2004-2010 and submitted them to the Fund on improving communication quality, which was created under the UPU. The works on two projects were completed. Third one is at the approval stage.

Besides, Uzbekistan Pochtasi participates in implementation of the strategic regional project of the UPU “Improving service quality” and “Developing and strengthening postal payment services” within the regional plan on postal development of the UPU for the European and CIS states for 2009-2012.

The company has launched international electronic money transfers with Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Belarus through joining to International Financial System IFS-Light of the UPU.

From February 2011, the company moved from IFS-Light to IFS with help of the specialists of the UPU.
