Uzbekistan Maintains Lead in Gold Sales Over First Five Months of 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of the end of May, Uzbekistan retained its position as the top seller of gold among central banks.

According to preliminary data from the World Gold Council, global central banks increased their gold reserves by 20 tonnes in May — 8 tonnes more than in April, but still below the 12-month average of 27 tonnes per month.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan topped the list of gold buyers in May, acquiring 7 tonnes. It was followed by Turkey and Poland, each with net purchases of 6 tonnes. Meanwhile, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) reported selling 5 tonnes of gold during the same period.

Despite this, the National Bank of Poland remains the largest gold buyer among central banks this year, adding 6 more tonnes in May and bringing its total gold purchases for 2025 to 67 tonnes.

As for Uzbekistan, the country sold 27 tonnes of gold over the first five months of 2025, including 1 additional tonne in May, maintaining its status as the leading gold seller among the world’s central banks.
