Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan discuss cooperation in the field of electricity exports

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov took part in a trilateral meeting of the relevant ministers of Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan on the production and export of electricity. The meeting took place in Baku on 14 November.

Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikail Jabbarov, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev and Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov also took part in this meeting.

The meeting participants discussed the prospects for implementing a project to organize the transfer of electricity produced from alternative sources through the territories of the countries of the region to consumers from third countries.

The importance of the project’s implementation for the development of energy partnership and infrastructure of the countries through which the cable route will be laid was noted, bearing in mind the multiplier effect in the form of the creation of new facilities and jobs.

Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov noted that the development of the green electricity transfer project will help strengthen ties between the economies and energy systems of the three countries. According to him, this will also allow the development of national energy industries. “We are ready to contribute to the joint work for the successful implementation of this initiative,” noted Laziz Kudratov.

The delegations of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were also briefed on the measures taken in Uzbekistan to support high-tech industries and the transition to a green economy. It was noted that Uzbekistan plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the total volume of electrical energy production to 40% by 2030.

The parties reviewed important aspects of the project, including the main conditions for the formation of the regulatory framework, conceptual parameters of the technical and economic efficiency of this initiative.

As a result of the meeting, the participants confirmed their commitment to taking comprehensive measures within the framework of the project, developed a format for further interdepartmental interaction and developed a clear action plan for the successful implementation of the agreements reached.
