Uzbekistan joins the Statute of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 55th plenary session of the Senate reviewed and approved the Law "On the Accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Statute of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (Rome, on 29 November 2013)."

The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property was established in 1956, with its headquarters located in Rome. Currently, around 140 countries are members of this international organization.

It was noted that the International Centre specializes in the preservation of global cultural heritage through education, information dissemination, research, cooperation, and public campaigns.

As an advisory body to UNESCO, the Centre provides assistance in preparing relevant conclusions and recommendations when reviewing projects intended for implementation at World Heritage sites.

Senators emphasized that Uzbekistan’s accession to the Statute of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property will help establish a new national school of historical monument restoration by studying and adopting international experience. It will also expand opportunities for the restoration and conservation of historical monuments and architectural structures in Uzbekistan.

The Senate approved the Law.
