Uzbekistan intends to limit advertising of junk food to children

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to tighten restrictions on advertising of unhealthy foods and drinks aimed at children. The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan said this at the statement.

As part of the “Public Health” program, Uzbekistan intends to reduce the level of childhood obesity by 30% by 2026, while providing schools and kindergartens with healthy nutrition.

One of the initiatives is the approval of a list of foods not recommended for children and young people in educational institutions, including foods high in sugar, salt and trans fats. It is also planned to develop a set of recommendations for children on proper nutrition, physical activity and hygiene.

In Uzbekistan, from April 2024, excise taxes will be introduced on carbonated drinks with sugar and energy drinks.
