Uzbekistan increases gas supplies to Tajikistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has increased gas supplies to Tajikistan," Shavkat Shoimov, deputy managing director of the Tojiktransgaz (Tajik gas transportation) open joint-stock company has told Asia-Plus.

Now Tajikistan is receiving about 25,000 cubic meters of Uzbek gas per hour while about 15,000 cubic meters of gas per hour was being delivered to the country two days before, he said.

The gas transportation company’s representative added that 20,000 cubic meters of the total amount of gas was supplied to central and southern Tajikistan and 5,000 cubic meters to the northern part.

Meanwhile, speaking about Tajikistan’s debt for Uztransgaz [Uzbek gas transportation company], which is over US$15 million now, Shavkat Shoimov expressed confidence that Tojiktransgaz would be able to pay off its debt for gas consumption in time.

Tojiktransgaz should pay back its debt by 1 October, the company’s managing director said on 21 July.
