Uzbekistan increases food production by 9.3% in 1H 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Production of food goods in Uzbekistan grew by 9.3% in the first half of 2012, the press service of the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.

The committee said that the figure was achieved in the result of programme measures on further developing industry and stimulating internal demand.

It said that increasing of competition in food industry of Uzbekistan helped to raise production of butter by 4.5 times, canned meat – 1.6 times, canned fruits and vegetables – 1.3 times, and soft drinks – 1.3 times.

Uzbekistan also increased production of dry milk mixtures for children (+9.9% year-on-year), sugar (+7%), salt (+3.4%), soda water (+1.3%), grape wine (17%), vodka and alcoholic beverages (+5.4%).

Growth of food production also helped to raise the volume of exports of fruits and vegetables by 6.3% and alcohol and soft drinks by 76.3%.
