The tournament is played in a round-robin format with two singles and a doubles encounter deciding each tie.
The top team from each pool progresses through to Saturday’s decider, with the winner of the final to advance to the World Group II playoff in April.
Australia, consisting of Jelena Dokic, Casey Dellacqua, Sam Stosur and Rennae Stubbs, kick off their campaign against Korea on Wednesday.
Coach David Taylor confirmed Dokic and Stosur had been chosen to play singles against Korea, while Dellacqua will partner Stubbs in the doubles.
Other day one action features Uzbekistan against Indonesia, India against New Zealand and Taiwan against Thailand.
