Uzbekistan imports 20,000 tons of high-yielding varieties of wheat

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In recent years, due to natural and climatic changes and the occurrence of unforeseen situations in the cultivation of crops, the development of seed production has become difficult in Uzbekistan. For this reason, our government and the Center for the Development of Seed Production under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan are implementing a number of activities.

In order to update the high-yielding varieties of grain cultivated for many years and varieties that are resistant to various stress factors, as well as to improve the grade, quality of grain and flour products, the agricultural cluster of Kentex in Jizzakh region at its own expense imported 20 thousand tons of early ripe, high-yielding wheat seed varieties of Russian breeding. Seeds are resistant to the climatic conditions of our republic and various stressful weather factors.

Today, work is being carried out on cleaning, sorting, processing and packaging of this seed grain in the prescribed manner. And the organization of work on the proper distribution and delivery of seeds to grain agroclusters and farms for autumn sowing in the republic is carried out by the Center for the Development of Seed Production.

It is expected that due to these seeds, the grain harvest in Uzbekistan will increase by 10-15%. At the same time, it is very important to import seeds in a timely manner, since early sowing material creates a good basis for obtaining a high yield.

According to the results of field testing conducted by the Center for the Development of Seed Production under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 77.8 thousand hectares of land were recognized as suitable for the 2023 crop and more than 270 thousand tons of seeds were collected.

Long-term joint work of scientists and specialists of our country and breeders of the National Grain Center named after P.P. Lukyanenko in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation makes it possible to obtain high and stable yields of grain crops. Cooperation has been established with the breeders of this center since 1997, every year 25-30 new breeding varieties and lines of this scientific institution are tested and introduced into local conditions.
