Uzbekistan, IMF discuss bilateral cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 19 October, a meeting was held between Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov and the newly appointed managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, the Press Service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade reports.

The head of the IMF praised the reform processes of Uzbekistan as a country with great resource and demographic potentials, noting that the current model of relations with foreign investors and financial organizations chosen by the government is optimal for accelerated social and economic growth in the current environment.

In this vein, issues of further intensification of macroeconomic reforms, in particular the sector of state enterprises and the banking system, were discussed.

The leadership of the IMF expressed its readiness to provide information and consultation assistance to increase the competitiveness and productivity of the economy of the Republic, in connection with which the issue of sending a permanent representative to Tashkent will be considered in the near future.

Following the meeting, a number of practical issues of further interaction were also worked out and the mechanisms of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ministries and departments of Uzbekistan were discussed.
