Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 24 December 2024, the first Yulduz Tech Awards ceremony was held at the Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan, celebrating the achievements of women in the field of information technology.

A total of 25 women were recognized for their contributions to the IT industry.

The event also featured an intellectual quiz on technology and the role of women in its development.

Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov emphasized the importance of expanding opportunities for women in the tech sector, calling support for women in IT an investment in the future.

He noted that Uzbekistan ranks first in the world in online education on the Coursera platform (with 49% of students being women) and has made significant progress in the Gender Equality and Governance Index (GEGI), moving from 103rd to 52nd place.

Advisor to the Minister Kamola Sobirova added that supporting women in IT is a key direction of state policy.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Digital Technologies, with support from Yandex Uzbekistan, TBC Uzbekistan, IT Park, Korzinka, ZTE, Click, Qand, the IT Education Association, Women in Tech Uzbekistan, Lerna, and the GAP and IT Ladies communities. The Yulduz Tech Awards are expected to become an annual event.
