Uzbekistan harvests over 3.35m tonnes of raw cotton – President
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 3.35 million tonnes of raw cotton was harvested in Uzbekistan, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said in his congratulation to the country’s farmers with fulfilling their contracts with the state.

In his greeting, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said the farmers achieved “this victory” despite extreme weather conditions and in the result of their hard work.

He said that heavy rainfall, snow and cold weather in autumn and winter created difficulties to farmers to preparation to sowing season. He added that in summer, when cotton starts to grow, hot weather also created serious problems for farmers.

Islam Karimov said that all these required hard work, strong will and resolve from farmers to harvest rich crop.

Uzbek President stated that the average crop per hectare made up 26.5 metric centners, which grew by 1.6 center compared to average five year figure. Cotton was harvested in just 35 working days, he added. Islam Karimov stated that 90% of harvested cotton was high grade.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov congratulated farmers with their achievement and said that cotton will allow to produce 25 types of products, including cotton-fibre, yarn, textile, edible oil, soap, etc. He added that it will also help to increase inflow of hard currency due to export of cotton-fiber and other goods.

Islam Karimov also underlined that implementation of five-year land-reclamation programme was also key for achievement of such result. He said that the state budget issued over 800 billion soums to land-reclamation works, including 210 billion soums in 2012. This allowed to improve conditions of over 1.2 million hectares of land.
