Uzbekistan 15/10/2008 Uzbekistan hands over 400 tonnes of aid to Kyrgyz Republic

Uzbekistan delivered 400 tonnes of humanitarian aid worth US$201,000 to neighbouring Kyrgyz Republic in line with the resolution of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov on providing humanitarian aid to the people of the Kyrgyz Republic, who suffered from the earthquake.

The earthquake, which occurred on 5 October with an epicenter in Nura village of Alay district of Osh region, brought serious damage to Kyrgyzstan. About 74 people died, most of which were children.

The Uzbek Embassy in Kyrgyz Republic said in a statement that the humanitarian aid was delivered to Kyrgyz Republic in twp stages. On 9 October, 44 vehicles and 4 vehicles on 10 October delivered humanitarian aid to Kyrgyz Republic on route Andijan-Osh through Dustlik customs complex.

The Kyrgyz side met the convoy with the cargo and expressed gratitude for provided humanitarian aid, the embassy added. The humanitarian aid was delivered to warehouse of Emergency Ministry of Kyrgyz Republic in Japalak settlement, Osh city.

The humanitarian aid includes various construction materials to the earthquake-hit region, including 120 tonnes of cement, foodstuffs, including 60 tonnes of flour, a tonne of vegetable oil, as well as blankets, knitwear, children’s clothes and other goods of first necessity.
