Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men” on 2 September.
In accordance with the Law, women and men have equal rights and opportunities guaranteed by the state, their discrimination on the basis of sex is not allowed.
At the same time, it does not constitute discrimination on the basis of sex, the establishment of differences in the regulation of relations related to functions:
- birth of children and breastfeeding;
- conscription for military service only men;
- adoption on the basis of this Law of temporary special measures to ensure the implementation of gender policy;
- detention in places of detention, execution of punishment.
Now, in order to identify and eliminate norms in the legislation that allow gender discrimination, a gender-legal examination of these acts and their projects will be carried out.
To ensure gender equality in the public service, positions for employees of the same sex may be temporarily quota. Moreover, quotas may be canceled if proportionality of the representation of women and men is achieved.
A unified state policy in the field of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men is implemented by the Commission for Gender Equality.
In accordance with the Law, a person, if he considers that he has been discriminated against on the basis of sex, has the right to apply to court. At the same time, a state duty is not levied on a person who has been discriminated against on the basis of sex.
This Law shall enter into force on the day of its official publication.
