Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — With the support of the General Consulate of Uzbekistan, a fellow countryman, O.K., who was in a difficult situation at the "Al Rashid" hospital in Dubai and required consular and legal assistance, has been returned to Uzbekistan, Dunyo news agency reported.
According to the Consulate, the citizen had been hospitalized due to health issues and accumulated debts amounting to US$17,835 for medical treatment and US$4,550 for overstaying his visa in the UAE, which led to a ban on leaving both the hospital and the country.
To resolve the issue, diplomats held negotiations with the hospital and UAE law enforcement representatives. As a result, the UAE authorities dropped all claims regarding the debts, allowing the citizen to return to Uzbekistan.
The General Consulate and the charity organization "Center for Assistance to Women and Children" in the UAE purchased a ticket for the citizen on the "Dubai-Tashkent" flight, and he safely returned to Uzbekistan on 15 November.
