Uzbekistan, Germany hold political consultations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Germany held the tenth round of political consultations in Berlin on 24 May 2010, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.

The German side included the Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany Cornelia Pieper and Deputy Director-General responsible for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia Patricia Flor.

The ministry said that the sides discussed current state and perspectives of developing of bilateral relations, including within the international organizations. The sides exchanged opinion on cooperation in Uzbekistan-EU format, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During the consultations, it was noted mutual intention to strengthening contacts at various levels and exchange opinion on bilateral, regional and international issues.

The German side highly rated implementation of the Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and forming civil society in Uzbekistan, directed at expanding authorities of parliament, strengthening independence of courts, raising roles of mass media and NGOs.

During the meeting, the sides expressed readiness to assist each other to increase bilateral trade turnover, expand trade-economic and investment cooperation, actively uses gained experience in this area. The sides underlined importance of increasing exchange of business circles, organizing business forums and cooperation exchange, participating of companies of two states at the specialized exhibitions, held in Germany and Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, Uzbekistan and Germany vowed to develop interaction in education, science, culture and healthcare, taking into account rich historic-cultural and scientific-technical potential of two states.

The sides underlined importance of raising efficiency of implementation of achieved agreements.

During the visit, the Uzbek delegation also held meetings with the advisor on security and foreign policy of German Chancellor Kristof Hoisgen, chairperson of fraction of Social Democratic Party of Germany and former Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Government Commissioner for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid at the German Foreign Office Markus Loening, business circles of Germany and Eastern Committee of German Economy, and others.
