Sports 09/01/2010 Uzbekistan fails to reach final in Russian tournament

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan U-18 could not reach the final of the tournament dedicated to memory of Granatkin. In last match of the Group A, Uzbekistan lost to host Russia.

Uzbekistan led by Marat Kabaev need only win to book place in final, but the Uzbek side was crushed out with the score 4-1. Muhiddinov scored the only goal from penalty.

Yuriy Smolyaninov, coach of Russia, said another difficult match ended. He added that Russian side tried to secure its goal. Smolyaninov expressed gratitude to the players, who achieve to change game. He also criticized the referee of the match.

Speaking about the final, he said Ukraine and Russia know each other well and the match should be interesting.

In his turn, Marat Kabaev expressed regret that Uzbekistan could not reach final. He said the result of Belgium’s match against Belarus changed the mood of the players. He added that Uzbekistan should win, but could not.

Kabaev said now Uzbekistan will focus to the final match against Azerbaijan. He said Uzbekistan already played with this team and know what to expect.
