Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan continues to lead in sustainable cotton production. The country is actively implementing sustainable development principles in its cotton sector, which is demonstrated by the signing of a strategic roadmap with the Better Cotton Initiative, reports Light Central Asia News.
According to representatives of Better Cotton, the new agreement aims to increase sustainable cotton production across the country and ensure the long-term development of the program. Within this initiative, four cotton-textile clusters have already received the Better Cotton certification, while an additional nine are in the process of certification. Thus, nine clusters from 14 farms are expected to be certified for the 2024-2025 season.
The partnership with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Uztextileprom Association will create an efficient cooperation system and define clear goals for the development of the cotton sector.
"This roadmap opens up new opportunities for the development and scaling of the program in Uzbekistan," said Katerina Gorbunova, Country Manager of the Better Cotton program in Uzbekistan, during the annual conference held in Tashkent on 13 November, under the theme "Building Strategic Partnerships for Sustainable Cotton Production."
