Uzbekistan establishes diplomatic relations with the Republic of Sierra Leone

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 April, a Joint Communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Sierra Leone was signed in New York (USA), Dunyo news agency reported.

The Republic of Sierra Leone has become the 143rd country with which Uzbekistan has established diplomatic relations.

On behalf of the governments of the two countries, the document was signed by the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN Bakhtiyor Ibragimov and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the UN Alhaji Fandai Turai.

This state, located in West Africa on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, is a member of the British Commonwealth, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement and other international structures.

The parties confirmed their interest in strengthening joint cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including the UN and its specialized agencies.

An agreement was reached to maintain bilateral contacts to search for mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

The signing of the document was an important step to enhance the interaction of Uzbekistan with the countries of West Africa.

Earlier on 10 October 2022, Uzbekistan established diplomatic relations with the Co-operative Republic of Guyana.
