Uzbekistan elected to the governing body of the International Labour Organization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 June 2024, at the headquarters of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, during the 112th session of the International Labour Conference, elections were held for members of the ILO Governing Body and their deputies for the period 2024-2027.

As a result of the voting, Uzbekistan, receiving the highest number of votes (194 out of the required minimum of 105), was elected to the ILO Governing Body as a deputy member for the first time in its history.

This election is a historic event for Uzbekistan as the country has entered the composition of this key ILO body for the first time.

The member states of the ILO highly appreciated the determination and political will of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which led to the eradication of child and forced labor in the country, the ratification of a number of important ILO conventions in the field of promoting the principles of decent work, and the transition from a policy of ignoring problems to addressing them through dialogue.

The Governing Body is the executive organ of the ILO. It directs the work of the Organization between sessions of the International Labour Conference and determines the implementation of its decisions. Three sessions of the Governing Body are held annually — in March, June, and November.

The Governing Body consists of 56 members and 66 deputies, elected for a three-year term.
