Uzbekistan discusses prospects for cooperation with Vietnam
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 March 2025, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis hosted a meeting between Otabek Mamatkarimov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments, and Tourism, and Dang Minh Khoi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Uzbekistan.
The parties discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation, focusing on trade and economic ties, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, and tourism development.
In 2024, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Vietnam reached US$189.3 million, with exports amounting to US$17.7 million and imports totaling US$175.6 million.
Particular attention was given to the tourism sector, where both sides recognized significant potential and explored measures to boost mutual tourist flows.
During the conversation, the Vietnamese ambassador was briefed on the upcoming 150th anniversary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, scheduled to take place in Tashkent from 5 to 9 April 2025. For the first time in history, this prestigious event will be held in Uzbekistan, bringing together around 2,000 parliamentarians from nearly 190 countries.
Dang Minh Khoi confirmed that a Vietnamese delegation, led by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, will participate in the assembly.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on preparations for the international forum and discussed further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
