Uzbekistan directs 2 trln. soums to healthcare development in 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan directed over 2 trillion soums to development of healthcare in 2010, the Uzbek President said on Friday at the session of the government.

Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan held the session on 21 January 2011 to discuss social-economic development in 2010 and important priorities of economic programme in 2011.

Uzbek leader said that additional capacities of in-patient medial establishments for 1,630 beds were launched in 2010, which is 2.5 times up compared to 2009.

President of Uzbekistan underlined that the country directed over 2 trillion soums to development of healthcare in 2010, of which 1.7 trillion soums were issued by the State Budget.

He said that about 60% of all expenses of the State Budget in 2011 will be directed to social sector, which is significant growth compared to 2009. He added that about 48% of expenses will be directed to healthcare sector, which is up by 1.8 trillion soums year-on-year.

Uzbek leader said that the country continued to reform healthcare sector and continued to create new medical establishments, including in rural areas. He said that number of rural medical points in Uzbekistan reached 3,200, which twice more compared to 2000.

President said that strong medical establishments network on protection of maternity and childhood was created in Uzbekistan. Screening centers were created in all regional centers and Tashkent city and Uzbekistan spent US$4 million to their maintenance in 2010. Last year, over 106,000 future mothers underwent examinations in these screening centers.

Islam Karimov noted that perinatal centers network is developing in Uzbekistan. In last ten years, Uzbekistan created 11 such centers and some 158,000 mothers and children underwent examinations.

In the result, maternal mortality decreased from 33.1 ppm to 19.7 ppm in last ten years, while child mortality from 18.9 to 10.1 ppm. Uzbek President said that number of children with inborn and inherited diseases decreased twice.

President Islam Karimov stated that number of sickness rate with heavy forms of diseases such TB, hepatitis, infectious diseases, also decreased these years.
