Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A parliamentary delegation from Uzbekistan, led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, is participating in the meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member states. The event is taking place on 21-22 November 2024, in Saint Petersburg.
On the first day of the visit, delegation members attended a session focused on organizational matters.
During the IPA Council meeting, the transparency and fairness of Uzbekistan’s parliamentary elections were highlighted, emphasizing adherence to democratic principles. It was noted that 75% of voters participated in the elections, with women making up 38% of elected deputies—the highest proportion in the region.
Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva thanked the observers for their objective assessments and recommendations, underscoring that these insights are carefully analyzed and incorporated into future practices.
The delegation’s participation in the work of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council is ongoing.
