Uzbekistan creates fruit, vegetable reserves for winter, spring
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan adopted measures to create reserves of fruits and vegetables at the volume of 555,000 tonnes for winter and spring, UzA reported quoting Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan.

Pravda Vostoka newspaper reported that the figure is 40,000 tonnes more compared to 2011. However, agreements for supply of 570,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables were signed with agriculture goods producers and suppliers.

Currently, the works on creation of reserves of potatoes, onions, carrots, apples, peaches, grapes and rice are underway.

Zafar Fayziev, chairperson of Uzulgurjisavdoinvest, 80% of the reserves was formed already. He said 71 regional trade bases under the association are storing 95,000 tonnes of onions, almost the same volume of potatoes, 25,000 tonnes of rice, 34,000 tonnes of melons and gourds and 62,000 tonnes of fruits.

According to the governmental resolution “On measures on developing and strengthening material-technical base on storing fruits and vegetables for 2011-2015”, the works on reconstruction and modernization, as well as construction of refrigerating warehouses are underway.

Over ten warehouses of Uzulgurjisavdoinvest were equipped with modern equipment. New warehouses with refrigerators with total capacities of 63,000 were constructed. Warehouses with the capacity of 31,000 tonnes were reconstructed. In the result, total capacity of warehouses reached 572,000 tonnes and cold stores – 215,000 tonnes.

Reconstruction works on construction of cold stores with the capacity of 1,300 tonnes in Karakalpakstan, 3,000 tonnes in Kashkadarya, 2,700 tonnes in Andijan, 1,000 tonnes in Khorezm, 300 tonnes in Bukhara, and 500 tonnes in Ferghana regions. The association launched production of sandwich panels, which help to increase number of warehouses, expanding opportunities for storing of products.

Uzulgurjisavdoinvest has some 2,677 shops, which are selling non-food and food products to consumers on affordable prices. The association rendered trade services for 481.3 billion soums to population and 121.4 billion soums – to population of remote and mountainous regions.

Total turnover of trade bases made up 580 billion soums in past period of 2012, which grew by 14.7% year-on-year.
