Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has concluded bilateral negotiations with the Philippines on its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), according to Azizbek Urunov, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for WTO Affairs, who shared the update on LinkedIn.
“It was an honor to sign the protocol with His Excellency Ambassador Teehankee Manuel in the presence of WTO Deputy Director-General Zhang Xiangchen,” Urunov stated.
He noted that the signing ceremony took place on Sunday at the Philippine Mission in Geneva. “Despite it being a weekend, we successfully finalized the negotiations,” he added.
Urunov mentioned that Ambassador Teehankee is set to travel to Manila ahead of the visit by WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to the Philippines next week.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to Ambassador Teehankee for his active participation, support, and collaboration. Special thanks also to the negotiation teams from Uzbekistan and the Philippines for their efforts—we accomplished this together,” Urunov wrote.
He also highlighted that the Philippines is the fourth country with which Uzbekistan has concluded negotiations in the past two months, following agreements with El Salvador, the United States, and China.
This brings the total number of completed negotiations to 22.
