Uzbekistan claims vital victory over Kyrgyzstan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- 2011 AFC Asian Cup semi-finalists Uzbekistan put one foot in the third round of qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Central Asian neighbours Kyrgyzstan in the first-leg of their second round clash at Pakhtakor Stadium on Saturday.

Alexander Geynrikh gave the 2011 AFC Asian Cup semi-finalists the lead in the 28th minute before Marat Bikmaev followed up the shaven-headed Suwon Samsung Bluewings striker’s opener four minutes into the second-half to make it 2-0 to the Uzbeks.

Uzbekistan tightened their grip on the match when former AFC Player of the Year Server Djaparov, who also had in spell in Korean football, playing for FC Seoul before joining 2010 ACL semi-finalists Al Shabab, netting the third in the 59th minute.

Ulugbek Bakaev, scorer of both goals in the 2-1 win over Jordan that put the Uzbeks through to the last four at January’s Asian Cup, capped the win when the second-half substitute made it 4-0 in stoppage-time.

The action resumes on July 28 when Kyrgyzstan will attempt to somehow overturn a four-goal deficit at the Spartak Stadium.
