Uzbekistan celebrates International Day for the Preservation of Monuments and Historical Sites

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 April, a festive event was held at the State Museum of Applied Arts and Handicraft History of Uzbekistan in connection with the International Day for the Protection of Monuments and Historical Sites.

The event was attended by the Cultural Heritage Agency, about 100 qualified and potential craftsmen, engineers, designers and scientists involved in the restoration, improvement, conservation and protection, study, design, use of cultural heritage from all regions of our republic.

Today, our country is on the verge of the Third Renaissance in the framework of the preservation of tangible cultural heritage. As a result of intensive and comprehensive reforms carried out by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the field of preservation and protection of cultural heritage, a systemic mechanism has been introduced.

According to the analysis, in our country today 8,209 real estate objects of material cultural heritage have been taken under state protection, of which 4,748 are archaeological objects, 2,251 are architectural objects, 678 are works of monumental art, 532 are sights .

Based on the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 19 June  2021 No. 5150 “On measures to organize the activities of the Cultural Heritage Agency and on the innovative development of the sphere”, the creation of regional restoration schools “Directorate for the Restoration of Cultural Heritage Objects” was established, according to this decree, regional restoration centers are being created “ Bukhara”, “Shakhrisabz”, “Samarkand”, “Termez”, “Kokand”, “Khiva” of the State Institution “Directorate of Cultural Heritage Objects”.

In conclusion, it should be noted that the attitude towards our national cultural heritage, which has passed through a series of times from the past to the present, has changed dramatically in recent years, along with restoration and conservation work, cultural heritage sites are developing as a strategic sector of the economy.

At the end of the event, master restorers and public inspectors, who have been fruitfully working in this area for many years, were awarded certificates of thanks and valuable gifts from the Agency’s leadership.
