Uzbekistan can produce 9bn cubic meters of biogas a year
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has potential to produce 9 billion cubic meters of biogas a year, deputy minister of economy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov said last week.

Speaking at the roundtable “Road map for development of biogas market in Uzbekistan”, he said that calorific peculiarities is equal to 6.5 billion cubic meters of gas, which will also allow to produce 18 billion kWh electricity a year.

Introduction of biogas facilities in Uzbekistan will also allow to cut 7-11 million tonnes of carbonic acid gas emission to atmosphere and produce over 14 million tonnes of bio fertilizers a year. This will help Uzbekistan to satisfy its demand for such fertilizers.

Manager of UNDP project “Supporting Uzbekistan in Transition to a Low-Emission Development Path” said that biogas facilities in Uzbekistan were installed within the pilot projects so far.

She said that mass introduction of biogas facilities should be next phase and both producers and consumers will need support in this process.

During the roundtable, it was noted that Uzbekistan plans to install 50 biogas facilities within the programme on development of renewable energy in agriculture sector in seven regions of Uzbekistan by 2017. The facility will be able to produce 20 megawatt of electricity.

The volume of waste of agriculture production in Uzbekistan annually makes up 10 million tonnes and is significant energy resource, which can be used for production of biogas, electricity and heat, production of forage for animals and birds.
