Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Interparliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus has reached a qualitatively new level, stated Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, during a meeting with Rakhmatulla Nazarov, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Belarus and Permanent Representative to the statutory and other bodies of the CIS, according to "Belarus Today" Publishing House.
Kochanova emphasized that the strong, trusting, and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries are largely the result of efforts by their leaders.
“Belarus and Uzbekistan share deep historical ties, but our relations have seen especially dynamic growth in recent years. A key milestone was the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to Uzbekistan in February 2024, which provided new momentum to our cooperation. The visit concluded with the signing of several agreements and a roadmap for 2024–2025, which both governments are now actively implementing,” she noted.
Kochanova paid special attention to strengthening interparliamentary relations.
“In August 2023, a Belarusian delegation paid an official visit to Uzbekistan. We participated in the Second Uzbek-Belarusian Women's Business Forum, held talks with our Uzbek colleagues, and signed cooperation agreements for 2024 and 2025. Following the visit, the presidents of both countries instructed us to oversee the implementation of these agreements,” she added.
A significant event was Kochanova’s meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the Belarusian parliamentary delegation's visit.
“We discussed a wide range of issues concerning bilateral cooperation in various fields, as well as prospects for interparliamentary collaboration. This year, I have already met several times with Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis. In the near future, we plan to visit Uzbekistan again to participate in the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union,” Kochanova stated.
The meeting with Ambassador Rakhmatulla Nazarov reaffirmed the mutual commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties. Belarus and Uzbekistan continue to actively develop cooperation in political, economic, and humanitarian spheres, opening new prospects for engagement on the international stage.
