Uzbekistan begins quest for ACL 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has officially begun its quest to participate in the 2012 edition of the AFC Champions League when it received a Special Mission Team (SMT) from the AFC on Saturday to help it qualify for the premier continental clubs championship.

A press conference to announce the purpose of the SMT was held immediately after a post-match press conference for a domestic league match at Jar Stadium.

The AFC’s Competitions and Professional Football Project Director Tokuaki Suzuki, who leads the SMT, and Farhad Mazametov, Managing Director of the Uzbekistan Professional Football League, fielded questions from reporters during the press conference.

Suzuki has told the media that the main goal of the inspection from 18 to 29 June is to check whether Uzbekistan football meets the criteria to participate in the ACL 2012.

“Today, we already have visited two clubs for inspection and the inspection will keep going until before the last day when we will deliver a club workshop by inviting the relevant club officials to Tashkent.

“In the meantime, I would like to stress that we are here not only for the inspection but also to assist Uzbekistan for the development of its football.

“At our next press conference, I would like to briefly report about the inspection results and I look forward to meeting you all,” he said.

Mazametov has pledged support for the AFC team throughout its work and thanked it for its hardwork on the project.

“First of all, I would like to thank the AFC team's hard work on this project to which we will give support as much as we can.

“As you are aware, this is quite a challenging project and I like to wish the best to this team during the inspection in Uzbekistan,” he said.
