Uzbekistan Awarded the Right to Host the International Olympiad in Informatics 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI–2025) has concluded in the Bolivian city of Sucre, bringing together 330 school students from 84 countries. The Uzbek national team delivered an impressive performance at the prestigious competition, winning one silver and one bronze medal.

These achievements were made possible thanks to consistent reforms in the field of information technology, aimed at fostering programming skills and algorithmic thinking among young people.

It should be recalled that on 20 December, 2023, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a videoconference was held on the development of the IT sector and the digitalization of public administration. At that meeting, it was decided that Uzbekistan would host the International Olympiad in Informatics in 2026.

As part of the preparations, relevant authorities were instructed to organize a multi-stage selection process for students — from school to district, regional, and national levels — and to form a group of the 100 most talented students from grades 5 to 8. These students were offered advanced training courses with the involvement of international experts with global experience.

The measures taken are already yielding tangible results. For the first time in history, Uzbek students secured a silver medal at the IOI, along with a bronze, proving the effectiveness of the steps undertaken.

At the closing ceremony in Sucre, the right to host the 2026 Olympiad was officially handed over to Uzbekistan. This milestone marks an important step in the development of IT education and in strengthening the country’s international standing.
