Uzbekistan, Austria discuss trade-economic relations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A session of the Uzbek-Austrian joint commission on trade-economic cooperation was held in Tashkent on 22 May 2012.

Representatives of ministries and departments, companies and firms, operating in various areas such as foreign relations, trade, banking-finance, food, chemistry, tourism and other industries, participated at the session.

The session exchanged opinion on perspective directions on further development of mutual trade-economic cooperation.

The sides considered further expansion of relation in trade, banking-finance, agriculture and water, food industry, electrotechnical and tourism, as well as participation of Austrian companies to privatization process in Uzbekistan, creation of joint ventures, etc.

The Uzbek-Austrian economic relations are based on such documents as agreements on trade-economic cooperation, mutual protection and stimulation of investments. Two countries have the most favourable trade regime.

Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Austria made up US$96.9 million in 2011 and US$15.945 million in the first quarter of 2012.

Currently, there are 31 joint ventures with the Austrian capital in Uzbekistan, which operate in such areas as polygraph, textile, footwear, pharmaceutics, etc. Some 10 Austrian companies have their offices in Uzbekistan.
